Philadelphia Pennsylvania antique map original. This one of a kind original vintage map of Philadelphia Pennsylvania comes from S.A. Mitchell's New General Atlas published at No. 31 South Sixth St. Philadelphia in 1860. This is the first edition of the New General Atlas which replaced the Universal Atlas. Mitchell, Sr. had acquired the rights to the Universal Atlas in 1845 from H. Tanner who first published it in 1836. Subsequently Mitchell Sr. sold most of his copyrights to Desilver by 1857. Mitchell Jr. reacquired the copyrights from Desilver in 1860 and published editions into the 1880's. This authentic historic old map of Philadelphia Pennsylvania has a blank verso or back side and beautiful hand coloring on sturdy paper. This antique map of Philadelphia Pennsylvania is truly a fine piece of Philadelphia Pennsylvania history near the beginning of the American Civil War. This historical map of Philadelphia Pennsylvania would make a fine addition to any collection or for beautiful display in home or office decoration.
