Product Description

Original antique map of Texas. This authentic vintage map of Texas comes from T.G. Bradford's Illustrated Atlas of the United States 1st Edition. This is the scarce and hard to find 1st state of the Independent Republic of Texas map. Land grants and colonies can be seen, later editions of this map were updated with counties as they were added. The border with the United States is the Red River to the North and the border with Mexico is the Rio de las Nueces as opposed to the Rio Grande. Towns, waterways and even the Old Mexican Garrison on the Rio Brazos are all visible. Truly a one of a kind piece of early Republic of Texas history. Published by Weeks Jordan & Co. in Boston in 1838. Engraved by G.W. Boynton. This old historical map of Texas is printed on strong paper with very nice hand coloring. This atlas is a much better work of Bradford than his earlier Comprehensive Atlas which was smaller, uncolored and contained much less detail. The total paper size for this map is approximately 19" x 15" with ample margins. A fine addition to ones collection or a great Texas antique map gift.
