Product Description

This original chromolithograph print of Hibiscus Coccineus comes from Thomas Meehan's seminal work, "The Native Flowers and Ferns of the United States". Published in four volumes from 1879 to 1880 in Boston by L. Prang and Company. Based on water color paintings by Alois Lunzer, this American Scarlet Rose Mallow print has vivid color due to the excellent printing of most likely the greatest American chromolithographer of the nineteenth century, Louis Prang. This authentic antique print measures 10" x 7" and the scientific Latin name is visable. When held in the hand it almost looks like the original watercolor painting itself. Each vintage print ships with the text description of the plant, a certificate of authenticity and a copy of the title and contents page from the book. Magnificent for display or collection and in excellent condition.
